Master David Rhodes is the founder of Ryukyu Kyusho Martial Arts. He has been involved in the Martial Arts for over 50 years and is the Training Director for Small Circle Jujitsu.

Probationary Black Belt in Modern Arnis

He recently retired from Indiana University Police Department after 40 years of service. He has an extensive background in Police Defensive Tactics as a PPCT instructor and Police Survival Techniques instructor.
In his free time, Sensei Rhodes enjoys writing (he is a published science fiction author), running, reading, watching baseball, and spending time with his wife and twin sons.
Jacob Spangler began tr aining in Small Circle Jujitsu in 2013 at the age of 31. Since then, he has gone on to train in boxing, wrestling, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Andrew has been training martial arts for over 24 years. He had his first experience with martial arts at age 14, training Ryukyu Kempo. He trained under Sensei Ed Emrich, and earned his 1st Dan Black Belt in 2006, and 2nd Dan in 2009.
Andrew continued his martial arts training in Chun Kuk Do under Sensei Jason Wilcox. He earned 1st Dan Black Belt in 2015, as well as earning a blue belt in Gracie Jiu-jitsu.
Andrew moved to Bloomington in 2015 and started training Small Circle Jujitsu under Master David Rhodes, earning 1st Dan in 2021.
Andrew has a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, which helps with in his understanding of body mechanics, physiology and kinesiology.
Matt Miller is a Bloomington native. He discovered Ryukyu Kyusho Family Martial Arts through a co-worker whose son went through the IUPD Police academy and knew Lieutenant David Rhodes. Matt first enrolled his son Brady in kids class, and became interested himself and enrolled in adult classes a short time later in 2016.
Since then, Matt earned his 1st Dan Black Belt in Small Circle Jujitsu in June of 2021. He also has a low green belt in Moder Arnis under Jason Gearheart Sensei, and more recently started training under Sensei Arthur Luhur in the art of Silat.
Matt believes the chances of ever needing to defend himself are low, however the everyday application of Martial Arts is so beneficial he will never stop training and learning.
After years of wanting to begin martial arts, Lacey finally took the plunge when she joined Ryukyu Kyusho Family Martial Arts in 2017. She began studying Small Circle Jujitsu under Sensei David Rhodes and hasn’t looked back.
Lacey received her 1st Dan Black Belt in SCJ in June of 2022. She has also dabbled in a bit of Indonesian Silat working under Sensei Arthur Luhur.
Teaching and training go hand-in-hand, and Lacey has enjoyed using her training and her background in education to assist in the Roos and Tigers classes at the dojo.
Arthur was born in Medan, a city in Sumatra island in Indonesia. He has spent more than half his life living in the US. In his mind, he has always done martial arts since childhood but he only started seriously in 2009. He has trained Small Circle Jujitsu with Sensei David Rhodes, Silat Buka Lingkaran with Alvin Guinanao, and TaiJi Chuen with Sifu Charles Pearce.
Arthur also teaches Indonesian Silat. You will find his sessions at BloomIndoSilat to be beneficial, challenging, and fun.
Being a biologist, and a NASM-certified personal trainer with specialization in Youth and Performance Enhancement, Arthur applies the scientific method to both his own learning and teaching.
